Join us as we hike to the sight of the largest dinosaur ever found - the Seismosaurus!  Though the Seismosaurus is now in the Albuquerque Natural History museum there are still petrified trees and many other fossils to see.  They are found in the Jurassic-age Morrison Formation (about 150 million years old). The erosion process has exposed large segments of petrified trees and the bones of huge dinosaurs, including one of the largest dinosaur skeletons ever discovered – that of a Seismosaurus. A 0.7 mile trail (the Seismosaurus Trail) will lead you to the site where this skeleton was once excavated. Because these fossil remains of plants and animals provide important information about life during this period.

The trail is about 2 miles round trip and is rated as easy.  Dress for the weather, layering recommended.  Wear sturdy hiking shoes and bring trail food and water.
This hike is suitable for adults and children who have an active outdoor life.  Hiking boots or sturdy shoes are a must.  Bring trail food, water, and dress for the weather.  (I recommend layering).  The hike is fairly easy with minor ups and downs but no elevation gain.

Meet in one of two locations:
1.  USCABQ at 9:00am 9800 Candelaria RD. NE
2.  Approx. 9:45am Home Depot on 550 in Rio Rancho.  Park at west end by the Tuff Sheds.

Bring trail food, and dress for late November weather.  Great hike for kids too!  Note: The road in is drivable in a car but pretty bumpy.)
